Final Winter Storm Analysis...Storm Totals And Snow Map Assessment!
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with our final winter storm analysis...and the snow map that I issued last night ended up doing very well as snow fell at the amounts I suggested across most of the New England area. Sorry, Boston, but I heard you guys got ripped off with like an inch or something, so I messed up for your area. But other than that, the snow map did well. We had 0.3 inches total here at my house last night, and most places around Harrisburg had anywhere from a half inch to nearly 2 inches of snow, just as I had thought. Easton and Allentown had no more than 1 or 1.5 inches, so I was a little high for forecast totals there. Farther north and northeast, I've seen totals ranging anywhere from 6-12 inches, just as I'd thought. So overall, the forecast on this storm turned out to be a success...but only at the last minute. Storms have been very difficult to forecast this year, so don't expect a very accurate forecast until a day before the event occurs. It's just the way the winter has worked and will continue to work...at least until mid-January when all the models are now hinting at a pattern change to much colder air in the Eastern half of the country. So storm totals from PA ranged anywhere from a dusting around the Turnpike to around 6 inches in the Poconos. Farther north and northeast, totals from NY to NH to VT to Maine (some snow is still falling in Maine and another 1-2 inches could fall) ranged anywhere from 7 to 11 inches as was expected. So that's the wrap on this storm, and I will have more later about our upcoming weather and the chances for some more snow tonight through Wednesday before a major warm-up toward the weekend. But don't get down, because it should not last for long... This has been Junior Meteorologist (Storm Tracker) Kyle Elliott with a winter storm assessment for the AKStormtracker Forecasting Center!
