Daily Weather Pattern Discussion...2 Small Storms This Week!
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with our daily weather pattern discussion...and two small storms will affect the region through the end of the week, the first of which will strike tomorrow with light snow. Just south of Pennsylvania in Maryland, Winter Weather Advisories have been posted for around an inch of snow. For north of the Mason/Dixon line, precipitation should remain all snow...but just how much precipitation actually gets into central and eastern Pennsylvania remains to be seen. Right now, my final forecast for York is a dusting to an inch...for Easton and Allentown: one to two inches. For the Philadlephia area, rain will mix with snow, keeping accumulations down to a dusting or less. In reality, it now appears nobody across the Mid-Atlantic or Northeastern states will see more than 3 or 4 inches out of this little storm...but Thursday's storm may become quite interesting. After Tuesday's storm goes through, another sharp blast of arctic air will flow into the region as another clipper storm comes down the flow on Thursday. The problem with this storm is that it is going to be so cold that snow ratios may be like 22:1, so even though most places see a tenth of an inch or less rain equivalent, that still could produce 2-4 inches of snow. And another complicating factor is that the models want to blow the storm up just off the Virginia, Delaware, and New Jersey coastlines...so if this development were to occur 100 miles sooner, somebody around Atlantic City, NJ, to Ocean City, MD, could see an enhanced band of snowfall on Thursday evening. There are still 2-3 days to watch this storm, so I don't want to go too in-depth on it now, but just be warned that there is the potential for a wide swath of 2-4 inches of snow with some enhancement near the Jersey and Maryland coastlines if development along the coast were to occur sooner than expected. After that, more cold air is in store for the weekend before another warm-up...and then more cold air comes in and the models are forecasting a very stormy pattern to resume around the 27th-29th of January and beyond with multiple chances for heavy rain and possibly the "Big Daddy" snowstorm. So that's about all I have time for this evening, so hope ya'll have a great rest of your evening and I'll talk to ya'll tomorrow!
