Daily Weather Pattern Discussion...Small Storms Upcoming!
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with our daily weather pattern discussion...and there is really not too much to talk about in the upcoming days except for a few small storm systems that will cross the area this upcoming work week. The first storm system will cross the Eastern States on Tuesday, and the second will arrive most likely on Thursday. Anywhere north and west of a Baltimore, MD...to Philadelphia, PA...to New York City line will have a fair shot at at least some light accumulations of snowfall on Tuesday as the storm reenergizes itself once it comes over the Appalachian Mountains and down into the valleys of New York State, Pennsylvania, and northern Maryland. I really don't want to go into many details or give forecast snowfall accumulations yet because I don't want to jinx the storm, but if it still on the models tomorrow as something to watch, then I will go into ample discussion about it. Until then, though, I will remain rather silent on the storm and only say that the potential exists for 1-4 inches of snow from Massachusetts to Connecticut to New York State and Pennsylvania. Just where the heaviest snow sets up, I am not sure yet and really don't want to go into details...so having said that, the second small storm system will cross the area on Thursday as a weak Alberta Clipper system moving across the Great Lakes drops in for a quick visit. This storm will probably be slightly weaker than the storm system on Tuesday, with highest amounts of around 2 inches in a very isolated area on Thursday. Generally, dustings to a half inch will be the rule on Thursday except on highest mountain peaks where one or two inches of snowfall could be possible. After that system moves through, another reinforcing shot of arctic air will slam into the Eastern Seaboard on Friday and last through at least Saturday or Sunday before moderating a bit about 11 days from now. After that, models have been going crazy with the chances of major nor'easters on January 29th and 31st, but I don't really want to HYPE theose storms too much yet as I think at best only one of them will produce any appreciable snow for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. Personally, my gut feelings tells me that the January 29th storm will move up through the Great Lakes and the January 31st/February 1st storm will probably ride up the East Coast on the tails of the 29th storm catching the revitalized shot of cold air that will be in place and end up giving places from Washington, D.C., to Boston, MA, their first all-round significant snowstorm of the season. At any rate, though, that is way too far out to say for sure though, so stay tuned and I'll let ya'll know what the latest models and updates say as the end-of-the-month storms get closer. So that's about all I have for ya'll today, so hope ya'll have a great rest of your afternoon and I'll talk to ya'll later this evening or tomorrow! Remember, stay warm this evening as the coldest air of the season is currently in place! If you have any questions on this forecast or would like to know my forecast for the weather in your area of the country for any day in the next two weeks or less, please, feel free to e-mail me at akstormtracker17@yahoo.com or kyleae@earthlink.net!
