Daily Weather Pattern Discussion...Miserable Cold Winter Time!
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with our daily weather pattern discussion...and after looking at the models and seeing all the boring weather coming up, I got very discouraged because we're going to be in the grips of an arctic airmass for the next 10 days and just won't be able to get any storms out of it. Another waste of a good airmass as miserable cold winter time sets in without any rain or snow to get anyone excited. Now there will be little waves of precipitation that come through the area around midweek this coming week, but they will only amount to an inch or less of snow. And as far as the storm tomorrow is concerned, it appears as if I made a wise decision in going conservative last night on my snowfall map as the models have come into agreement that snowfall will only graze southern D.C. and Cape Cod while the heaviest band of 3-6 inches moves across central and southern Virginia and southeastern MD and NJ. I would not be surprised if D.C. and Baltimore get a few snowflaks tomorrow, but no accumulation is almost a guarantee for the cities. Another rip-off for I-95 and Pennsylvania...just the way the winter's gone. After this storm moves through tomorrow into tomorrow night, a BITTERLY COLD AIRMASS will set in across our region for both Sunday and Monday before moderating only slightly by Tuesday. Because we still have some snowpack today left over from last night's storm and all the snow didn't quite melt, it will help keep the cold air in place for at least Sunday and Monday and possibly even Tuesday. On Tuesday, a disturbance may push through our area with an inch or less of snow, but it will be nothing to look at closely or dwell on as big storm possibilites are out of the question. The same cannot be said, though, for Thursday of next week as another storm looks to take aim on our area...but, once again, it appears as if it will stay suppressed to our south across Virginia. Things may change, but it looks like a long cold and depressing stretch across our area for snow lovers and warm-weather lovers like myself alike. In my opinion, the next few days will be the most miserable days of the winter so far as everything freezes over and the bitter northwest winds set in for two or three days. So that's about all I have for today as I am not in the most optimistic of moods, so hope ya'll have a great rest of your evening and enjoy the 40s while they're here!
