Daily Weather Pattern Discussion...Big Storm Sunday/Monday!
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with our daily weather pattern discussion...and let me tell you, a BIG STORM is going to come across the country this Sunday and Monday as a low pressure will form across the south-central states and track up toward Cleveland or Detroit by early Monday morning. This storm will impact nearly everybody in the eastern half of the nation, but anybody east of the Ohio River Valley should not have to worry about much if any wintry precipitation out of this one. For those who do get the snow, though, this could be a great but dangerous snowstorm as upwards of 1-2 feet of snow could fall around Chicago northward to Green Bay over toward Traverse City, Michigan. Detroit, Michigan, could even get in on some snow if the storm takes a track slightly farther east than currently forecasted. In my opinion, this storm WILL take that track farther east, therefore shifting the axis of heaviest snow slightly farther east too. For the Eastern Seaboard, the dam of cold air across the area Saturday night and possibly even Sunday will break by Monday morning...giving way to a potential severe weather threat for the Delmarva Peninsula down to Virginia Beach as a warm surge of air comes racing up as far as Interstate 80 in north-central Pennsylvania. I think highs will be in the 60s and 70s from D.C. south fo Virginia Beach...while 60s rule the roost from the Mason/Dixon line down to Baltimore, MD. Farther north, 50s should be the rule across central and southeastern Pennsylvania with highs near or slightly above 60 in the Lower Susquehanna and Delaware Valleys. Heavy rainfall will be a concern in the above mentioned areas, along with, as I mentioned earlier, the potential for some severe thunderstorms across parts of Virginia and the Delmarva. Overall, this will be a multi-facited storm which will impact many, many people...so remember, stay safe and keep alert for the latest watches and warnings from the National Weather Service. I will make sure to keep ya'll updated with those latest watches/warnings as we go throughout the next few days...so that's about all I have for now, so hope ya'll have a great rest of your evening and I'll try to do another video update later! By the way, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYBODY! This is Junior Meteorologist (Storm Tracker) Kyle Elliott reporting for the AKStormtracker Forecasting Center!
