Final Map And Discussion For Tomorrow's Storm...

Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott...and after much scrutiny and debate, I came up with my final snowfall map for the storm tomorrow. A few points I want to make in accordance with my map...

1) There is a chance I am underdone on the snowfall amounts from Albany to Boston as models such as the NAM seem to predict a much heavier snowfall for those areas than 2-5 inches...but I'm sticking with my guns because I still believe that the models will end up being 20-30 miles too far south with the heaviest band of snow. If the storm tracks where the latest models show, though, then places such as far northern CT and western MA could make out quite well with this storm.

2) Across the mountainous terrain of central, north-central, and northeastern Pennsylvania, I am concerned about a few hours of icing tomorrow morning if enough clear skies can come into the area this evening, allowing temperatures to dive quickly below freezing. If this occurs, than the ridge-and-valley regions...and especially the mountainous terrain...may see a few-hour period of freezing rain before a changeover to plain rain. Also, as cold air rushes in on the back side of the storm, I would not be surprised to see spotty areas which change over to snow and pick up a quick inch, maybe two, on the back side of the storm.

3) I decided to not put any icing or snow threats for the valley areas from south-central and southeastern PA through northern NJ and CT and Rhode Island. Even though a freezing rain advisory has been issued for southern PA, I just do not see the temperatures falling to below freezing there tonight as freezing rain should be evaded tomorrow due to warmer surface air. Though some models suggest cold air coming in as far southward as northern NJ and western and central CT to change precipitation over to a quick 2-4 inch burst of snow on the back end of the storm, I still am not buying that and therefore have decided to go conservative with my snowfall map. I will say, though, that there is a chance that this storm gives quite a few people in the Boston, MA, to Albany, NY, zone a few surprises in the way of heavier accumulations of snow than are currently anticipated...

I will touch on next week's snowfall chances for the Mid-Atlantic and southeastern New England on Monday after this storm is past. Until then, enjoy the storm and stay safe if you're in areas affected by wintry precipitation tomorrow!
