8 P.M. Winter Storm Update...A Perfect Forecast And The Changeover!

Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with our 8 P.M. Winter Storm Update...and my final forecast of 2-4 inches that I made last night for the York County area turned out to be no less than perfect as all amounts I saw across the county ranged between 2 and 4 inches with exactly a perfect 3 inches at my house. For once we got snow instead of another crapshoot...Thank God!!! Anyways, the changeover to freezing drizzle that I expect around 6:45 was delayed slightly until about 7:20, but it did come nevertheless at we are now cloudy with mist/freezing drizzle at my house. Thankfully, though, the precipitation has come mostly to a close and any drizzle that does fall will not be enough to suppress snowfall accumulations overnight. What this means is that when we all wake up in the morning, the pretty winter scene will still be the same as it appears right now. Anyways, snowfall will continue for northern and northeastern Pennsylvania throughout the night with a general 1-4 inch accumulation anywhere north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. My colleague said he had 2 inches on the ground in Easton when I talked to him at 6 P.M...and I'd assume he has at least 2.5 or 3 by now, so some places may see a 5 inch amount, but the common storm totals will range around 2 or 3 inches for most places. So by the time 11 P.M. roles around, the precipitation will be mostly shut off for most places except for extreme northeastern Pennsylvania. So all in all, I was very pleased with this winter storm and learned two valuable lessons: #1) I must always go with my original gut feeling on a storm as when I originally saw this storm on the models my gut told me we could get at least a moderate snowstorm...and we ended up getting just that...and #2) I should never HYPE a storm until only 3 days before the storm as I only started HYPING this yesterday and it ended up occurring. It seems that if I HYPE a possible winter storm prematurely from 4 or more days out, I jinx the storm and it ends up being a dud. So from now on, I will probably not be sold on a possible storm until about 3 days before hand because it seems if I HYPE it from 4 or more days out, it just is another BUST. So that's about all for this winter storm and the lessons I learned from it, so hope ya'll enjoyed the snow and I'll post again later this evening as I discuss a possible snowstorm on Saturday...which is only 2 days away so I can start HYPING it now! This has been Junior Meteorologist (Storm Tracker) Kyle Elliott with a winter storm update, for the AKStormtracker Forecasting Center in Storm Alert Mode!
