5:40 P.M. Winter Storm Update...The Changover To Rain, Well, It Just Never Came!
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with a 5:40 P.M. Winter Storm Update...and the changeover to rain that I was expecting between 4:30 and 5:30 still hasn't come. Also, it is still snowing to beat the band in northern Maryland, so I do not expect a changeover to rain now until at 6:30 or 7 P.M. for those here in the Lower Susquehanna Valley. So far, I have 3 inches of snow on the ground and about 3.5 in my backyard due to the influence of the grass...but either way you slice it, this will probably end up being the biggest snowstorm of the year so far for the Lower Susquehanna Valley. Total storm accumulations should range from 2-5 inches between York, Lancaster, Harrisburg, and Carlisle...with upwards of 4-6 inches around the Gettysburg and Hanover areas. So my forecast of 2-4 inches last night was surprisingly right on...in all honesty, I thought we would see only about an inch or two of snow, but I went with my gut on this one and it turned out to be right. So right now there are heavy bands going through southern Pennsylvania while northern and northeastern PA continued to get ripped off from any good snowfall at this point. Overall, accumulations throughout the area will probably range from 2-5 inches before the changeover to sleet and rain and about 1-3 inches north and northeast of Harrisburg to the Pocono Mountains. So that's where things stand for now, so enjoy the snow for the next few hours and I'll update again around 8 P.M. This has been Junior Meteorologist (Storm Tracker) Kyle Elliott with a special winter storm update for the AKStormtracker Forecasting Center!
