Snow Scare-Triple Threat Next Week!

Hello this is Kyle Elliott for the AKStormtracker Forecasting Center...and get ready for a major change in the weather from what was experienced across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast today as there will be a triple threat next week as far as snow chances are concerned. Today, the high temperature reached 78 in my area, and many places south of the Mason/Dixon line reached the lower to middle 80s. North of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, most places got stuck in the 60s...but that's still not very shabby for this time of year. Anyways, that is all going to be ancient history by next week as a storm system gathers in the Midwest on Sunday into Monday. A swath of snow appears as though it will form and streak northeastward across Minnesota on Columbus Day...and that could then track into far northern New England by Tuesday into Tuesday night. That is the first and most unlikely storm to produce the snowfall in the Northeastern states...but the second will come right on its heals Wednesday. This one, though, at this time also appears unlikely to spread precipitation far enough north into the cold air that will be in place over the Mid-Atlantic Wednesday night to produce any precipitation at all. Right now, all eyes are quickly turning on what the 18z GFS throws out there for the time period of a week down the road. Below is an image of the model around Friday, October 16, for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. It would not take much imagination to have this storm farther east and the cold air closer into the storm center...giving an early season blast of snow to the interior of PA, NY, and into New England. Keep in mind, though, that it would also not take too much to have this storm track farther westward...and that would give another warm rain to areas along the Eastern Seaboard much like the case today. Either way you slice it, it's one to watch...and whatever happens, the first true cold shot of the season and first frosts will affect the Mid-Atlantic States very shortly...possibly as early as next week. Well that's about all I have for now, so hope ya'll have a great weekend and I'll post again next week! I'll leave you with a picture of the 18z GFS model for this coming Friday...
