5:45 P.M. Update...December 30/31 Models Nor'Easter!
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with a 5:45 P.M. Winter Storm Update...and the latest 18z run of both the NAM and GFS models are in. Both now show a coastal storm with our area getting very heavy snow...and the GFS has a "miniature nor'easter" coming up the coast Sunday night with the rain/snow line anywhere from Washington to Baltimore to Philly to New York. In all likelihodd, the rain/snow line will probably end up being a good 40 miles north of there given the way things have been this winter, but the bottom line of the new model runs are that the storm is much stronger than previous runs and our area gets much more snow...say a good 4-7 maybe 8 inches. The storm is moving quickly and will not last that long, but the snow will be blindingly heavy during the time it falls...so get ready, because it now appears that our areas will at least see some sort of accumulating snowfall! I still like my forecast of 3-6 inches, but I will admit, my hands were shaking when I saw the latest runs of models because if they come true, we could be in for a good dousing of heavy snow. So I am going to pray that the storm track does not move any further inland, because if it does, it will only be another battle between rain and snow instead of remaining all snow. One last thing I wanted to mention...I think the rain/snow line will end up being here: Reisterstown, MD...to Shrewsbury, PA...to Lancaster, PA...to just south of Allentown, PA...to just north of New York City...to around Hartford and Boston. So that's where things stand for now and my latest thoughts on the storm...so hope ya'll have a great rest of your evening and I'll try to update once or twice more before I retire for the night. This has been Junior Meteorologist (Storm Tracker) Kyle Elliott with a special report for the AKStormtracker Forecasting Center!
