Daily Weather Pattern Discussion...Active Holiday Weather!
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with our daily weather pattern discussion...and a very active weather pattern is coming up for the holidays with multiple opportunities for snow through the Christmas holiday season. Nothing is a given with smaller storms and marginal cold air running around for the holidays, making snow harder to come by, but the main point for tonight is that the storms are there and will give us multiple shots at snow over the next week or so. The first storm that will move through is the weekend storm which will produce mostly if not all rain with highs in the 40s and 50s for Sunday dropping through the 30s Sunday night...possibly causing rain to change over to a one or two hour period of snow with little or no accumulation. That will be about it for that storm, but the more interesting and challenging forecasts come after the weekend as not one but two storms (the twin storms I mentioned last night) will possibly affect the region Christmas Day through New Years Eve. At this point, it appears that only a weak wave of low pressure will come across our region sometime on Christmas Day or the day after Christmas...possibly resulting in a few inches to a moderate accumulation or snowfall. It does not appear that this storm will wind itself up like I was hoping it might do last night, but that is anything but the case with the storm after that as that storm could wind itself up so much so quickly that it could race up the Appalachian Chain instead of moving up the Eastern Seaboard. So the bottom line for the Christmas storm is that we could experience about a 6 to 12 hour period of light to moderate snowfall resulting in up to 2-4 inches of snow. As far as the December 29th/30th storm goes...well, that is still in the longer range, so I am not going to release a verdict on that one just yet...although something tells me that storm could bomb out and move up the East Coast resulting in a very heavy snowfall for our area just before New Years. Now of course, none of that is set in stone yet, but I just wanted to get my latest thoughts out there concerning these two latest snowstorm possibilities. So that's about all I have for ya'll this evening, so hope ya'll have a great rest of your evening and I'll talk to ya'll tomorrow! If you have any questions on this forecast or would like to know my forecast for the weather in your area of the country for any day in the next two weeks or less, please, feel free to e-mail me at akstormtracker17@yahoo.com or kyleae@earthlink.net!
