Daily Weather Pattern Discussion...Christmas Snow After All?
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with our daily weather pattern discussion...and could we actually see snow for Christmas or the day after? Well, the GFS and weather.com are forecasting snow for the day after Christmas, even though yesterday I thought it was not even halfway possible to see snow around Christmas...but of course, in the weather, things change. Anyway, let me cover the short term first, then I'll go into the Christmas Day possbilities. I guess I'll start by giving ya'll some good news: tomorrow will be mostly sunny with highs around 40 to possibly 45. The same will be true for Friday, but don't used to it, as by Saturday a major storm system will cross the country brining heavy rains and warmer temperatures to our area by Sunday. Due to the storm most likely pulling up through the Great Lakes, precipitation will all fall in the form of rain for our area accompanied by high tempertures between 50 and 55 degrees. Beware though, because cold air could catch up to the precipitation as it ends on Sunday night causing rain to change over to a brief period of moderate to heavy snow as the storm pulls out. Little if any accumulation is expected at this point, but it is something that bears watching over the next two or three days. OK, so that's about all I have for ya'll for the short term tonight, but now I will move onto and introduce the latest HYPE...the reappearance of the Christmas Day Storm on the models. After the storm this weekend moves through, an arctic air mass will settle into our region, wiping away any warm temperatures both at the surface and aloft. As the cold air settles in on Monday and Christmas Day, a new storm system is forecast to develop along the Louisiana Gulf Coast. This storm is then forecast to remain fairly far south until upon reaching the East Coast when it is forecast to take a sharp left turn and head up the coast. If this forecast comes to fruition, it would mean heavy snow for almost all of the Eastern two-thirds of Pennsylvania along with very cold temperatures. Accumulations are uncertain at this point obviously, and I'm not even guaranteeing that a storm will arise around Christmas Day, but at least the HYPE is back on the models and definitely bears watching as we approach the holiday. So before I go into any further details about what the models show and start blowing up something that might not even happen (like this past weekend's storm), I will stop there for this evening and post more in my discussion tomorrow as details start beginning to become more clear for both the weekend storm and the Christmas Day Storm possibility. So that's about all I have for ya'll tonight, so hope ya'll have a great rest of your evening and I'll talk to ya'll tomorrow! If you have any further questions on this forecast or would like to know my forecast for the weather in your area of the country for any day in the next two weeks or less, please, feel free to e-mail me at akstormtracker17@yahoo.com or kyleae@earthlink.net!
