3:30 P.M. Winter Storm Update...Still Snowing Hard!
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with a 3:30 P.M. Winter Storm Update...and it is still snowing hard here in central York County with now 2.5 inches of snow on the ground. For the past 2 hours, snow has been coming down hard at rates of around one inch per hour with heavier bands. Some places in southwestern York County have probably seen upwards of 4 inches by now with some of the more persistent heavy banding. I am actually surprised that the cold air is still holding its ground with even Parkton, MD, still reporting heavy snow at this point. It has changed over to heavy heavy rain in Baltimore, but has changed back over to snow at Washington, D.C. I don't know why it's gone back over to snow at D.C., but that is encouraging for me to see as it gives me hope that we may remain all snow here for at least another hour or two with an additional inch of accumulation possible in heavier banding. The heaviest snowfall band right now runs from Hagerstown, MD, to Parkton, MD, to Wilmington, DE. Snowfall rates are easily one to two inches per hour within that band, and I'm almost sure that somebody has picked up between 4 and 6 inches around Westminster, Maryland, this afternoon. More heavy bands are forming to our south and west right now, so expect burst of heavy snow this afternoon with a light to moderate snow elsewhere. So that's about all I have for now, so hope ya'll have a great afternoon and I'll post another update at around 6 P.M. This has been Junior Meteorologist (Storm Tracker) Kyle Elliott reporting for the AKStormtracker Forecasting Center!
