Daily Weather Pattern Discussion..."Dirty" Warm-Up And Then...
Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with our daily weather pattern discussion...and the main thing I am going to focus in on this evening is the warm-up, or January thaw, that we are going to experience over the next week or so. First...and to my great dismay...the thaw may not be as great or as warm as originally thought as there could be plentiful cloud cover and sprinkles which keep temperatures in the lower to middle 50s as opposed to the lower to middle 60s. Now don't get me wrong, there is almost no doubt that by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week southern Pennsylvania will see highs in the 60s to near 70, but from Saturday through Monday some question remains as to exactly how warm it will get. Even if it does not reach the 60s, it will feel much better than the 20s of today and the near 40 readings of tomorrow as highs at the least will be in the 52-56 degree range on Sunday and Monday for southern Pennsylvania. Folks in northern and northeastern Pennsylvania, though, will not be so lucky as highs will be stuck in a rut in the 40s until Tuesday and Wednesday of next week when temperatures skyrocket to the upper 50s to near 60. I still do believe that places in southern Pennsylvania could see 70-73 degree readings by next Wednesday, but the problem is most places across the state could get ripped off for a few days as the warmth stays just west of the Appalachian Mountains until Tuesday. Currently, the Lower Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania appears as if it will experience the greatest warming of the period (lucky for me because that's where I live) with highs by Sunday near 50-53 and 57-61 by Monday before warming to near 65-73 by Tuesday and Wednesday. Sadly, though, if you are a warm-weather fan like myself, this will be the exception across the state rather than the rule as most areas, in my opinion, especially those across the mountainous terrain, will see highs peak on Tuesday and Wednesday only near 60 degrees instead of near 70. It is definitely something to watch over the next few days to see just how warm the state will get, but something tells me that we could be in a sort of "rip-off zone" as far as the warmth is concerned until Monday or Tuesday of next week. Now don't get me wrong, most places will be in the 40s to near 50 on Saturday and Sunday...my only point is that it probably will not reach 55-60 statewide on Sunday as originally anticipated. So that's about all I have to say as far as the warm-up is concerned, but after that, snow-lovers may finally get their hopes satisfied around the 14th of January. We'll just have to wait and see what spins up...but all I'll say now is that a storm and a significant pattern shift is on the models... So that's about all I have for ya'll this evening, so hope ya'll have a great rest of your evening and I'll talk to ya'll tomorrow or later this evening if I decide to post an update!
