Moderate Risk Severe Today...Big Thunderstorms This Evening!

Hello this is Junior Meteorologist Kyle Elliott with a special report on the possibility of a widespread outbreak of severe weather across Pennsylvania today...and anybody across the eastern two-thirds of the state should be on the lookout for damaging wind gusts and large hail with any thunderstorm that develops this afternoon and evening. A lee side trough has developed just west of the Lower Susquehanna Valley region this morning, and thunderstorms should explode along that boundary in just few hours now. When this occurs, severe storms with hail should move toward the Susquehanna River late this afternoon...where a narrow area of High Risk Severe could be included. That zone would run anywhere from Williamsport to York to Lancaster to Reading where hailers could develop in a hurry this afternoon. The only inhibiting factor to monstrous storm growth today is dew point temperatures which are only in the high 50s to low 60s...but with strong upper level shear and high CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) values, thunderstorms should have no problem developing as temperatures race into the 80s in most locations. There should be isolated thunderstorms that develop in the early afternoon, but a second potent squall line with wind damage should erupt over the central mountains late in the day. This should then charge southeastward across the state with a second round of wind damage and hail. Basically, anybody living in Pennsylvania today needs to be on the lookout for damaging thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening. Well that's about all I have for now, so hope ya'll have a great day and remember, be safe and get to the lowest level of your home if a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued for your area. This is Junior Meteorologist (Storm Tracker) Kyle Elliott reporting for the AKStormtracker Forecasting Center!
